My Name is Matt and I Am The Founder of Rising Sun Tutoring
As the son of two teachers, education has always been a center point of my life. I began tutoring while in college at both Scottsdale Community College and at Arizona State University’s Engineering tutoring center while working on my degree in Physics. While it was quite the undertaking at first, the guidance of a few professors enabled me to provide the high level of quality tutoring that I believe all students deserve. Now, with over a decade of tutoring under my belt, I take pride in being able to help the students of the valley. Being a lifelong resident of Phoenix, I take pride in being able to provide exceptional tutoring to my community. I have taken what I learned through college and combined it with my own experience to develop what I call The Rising Sun Approach.
The Rising Sun Approach
My approach to tutoring combines a core philosophy of those who taught me math with a philosophy of my own. What I learned from my professor’s in college is the importance of the students themselves actually doing the math problem. While solving problems is a great way to show guidance, the ability to solve problems on your own is best fostered by actually solving them. However, this can be boring, tedious, and at times frustrating which is why I always do my best to lighten the load when possible. This is usually done through using analogies that my client’s can understand or through taking a step back and talking about what it is we’re doing and why we’re doing it. A comparison I will often make is comparing doing math to exercising. Just like the movements we use in the gym aren’t necessarily the movements we will make in real life, the problems we solve while doing math aren’t necessarily the problems we solve in real life. However, it is by going through these motions in the gym that we are able to strengthen our body. In a similar fashion, going through these motions while doing math help to strengthen our mind.
